Being a pen holder have studied many games of Wang hao and Ma Lin against Joo . They were absolute destroyers of defenders. We all remember Wang Hao as the Best RPB but here 90% of his shots are FH. Pure destruction. You can't be head to head with Ma Long without having a killer FH. The reason why Xu Xin is more popular is because of exaggerated foot work. Wang Hao was far better at anticipation than anyone else in the game till date. He was almost always there before the ball even landed on his side of the table 😂. He rarely needed overt athleticism to win points. The 3 silvers broke him though. You can tell from his body language post 2012 😢.

Ma Lin actually often struggled against joo, I can think of at least three occasions where joo beat him, including an important match at the 2003 wttc.

RSM was a monster strategist. Always one step ahead. If you can read table tennis, you'll see he always knows how to bit Boll and do it quick (3rd/4th ball). He always attack on Boll's weak side, and force him to put the ball on his monstrous forehand. He even watch Boll's legs positioning and attack accordingly. He is a genius no doubt. You don't get an Olympic gold medal just by being good.
